Top 5 Highlights of the Harley-Davidson® Pan America™ Special

The All-New Revolution® Max 1250 Engine

All-New Revolution® Max 1250 Engine- Harley-Davidson® Pan America™ Special

The heart of the Pan America™ 1250 Special is the Revolution Max 1250 powerplant which is a structural component of the motorcycle chassis which eliminates the need for a traditional frame. The benefit of this new structure is a reduction in weight while keeping handling tight and precise. A lowered center of gravity keeps the chassis rigid, allowing the rider more confidence while touring long distances. The engine also features double overhead camshafts (DOHC) which generate higher peak horsepower along with variable valve timing (VVT) which stretches the overall powerband and improves torque. This allows the Pan America™ 1250 Special to have tremendous low-end acceleration from a standstill and high-revving horsepower to chase the streets and boulevards of South Florida.

Adaptive Ride High

Adaptive Ride High - Harley-Davidson® Pan America™ Special

The adaptive ride height is a revolutionary suspension that made its debut on the Pan America™ 1250 Special. The factory-installed option provides confidence and control by lowering seat height when stopped, and maintains a constant, optimum suspension sag at speed by adjusting preload while continuously sensing weight inputs.

Adding to the benefits of the adaptive ride height are semi-active front and rear suspension modules featuring 190mm travel-on-Showa™ balance free forks (BFF) fronts and a balance free rear cushion-lite (BFRC™) coil-over rear shock with electronic preload control and semi-active damping. The suspension is connected with the shock, swingarm, and frame by way of a linkage system that provides a progressive feel through the stroke.

Off-Road Ready

Off-Road Ready - Harley-Davidson® Pan America™ Special

The Pan America™ 1250 Special has several standard enhancements that allow the rider to make the most of their journey whether exploring the everglades on the western limits of South Florida or cruising out east towards the beaches of Miami and Fort Lauderdale. An aluminum skid plate protects the engine crankcase from impacts while the brush guards protect the radiator and help support the motorcycle in a tip-over.

There is also a steering damper to enhance dynamic performance during aggressive off-road riding and a no-tool-needed adjustable brake pedal which can switch between two positions to improve control and comfort when the rider is standing.

Tubeless Laced Wheels

Tubeless Laced Wheels - Harley-Davidson® Pan America™ Special
Optional on the Pan America™ 1250 Special are the factory-installed tubeless laced wheels. The spokes are inserted through the aluminum wheel rim outside of the tire bead. The design allows the use of a tubeless tire, which eliminates the weight of an inner tube, and makes the spokes repairable in the field.

If spokes become loose or even break, they can be quickly serviced or replaced without removing the wheels from the motorcycle or removing the tire from the wheel.

Adaptive Lighting

Adaptive Lighting - Harley-Davidson® Pan America™ Special

To keep things safe and easily identifiable while riding through the South Florida area, the Pan America™ 1250 Special features the Advanced Daymaker® Adaptive Headlamp. Utilizing the ABS IMU to determine the lean angle of the bike, this innovative system automatically projects additional light into corners to illuminate areas of the road that may be unlit by an LED headlamp.

The adaptive lighting includes three LED elements per side, located just above the main Daymaker® headlamp. The adaptive lamps illuminate in sequence based on the motorcycle’s lean angle: at 8, 15, and 23 degrees.

Rather than just switching on and off, the current to the adaptive elements ramps up gradually so the additional lighting is progressive and appears seamless.
