In the first series of our “Have you ever wondered?” blog, we will look to answer common Harley-Davidson enthusiasts’ questions regarding the best way to ride safely with your precious four-legged fur baby on your motorcycle.
We don’t have to tell you that riding your Harley-Davidson motorcycle throughout the streets and boulevards of South Florida is one of the most satisfying things you can do. Cruising down Ocean Drive in Miami Beach or up A1A along Fort Lauderdale Beach provides endless views and sights to be seen. But what could make your ride even better? You guessed it. Your devoted dog right at your side.
For pooches that pack on 25 pounds or less, there’s a relatively simple way for your canine companion to ride along with you on your Harley-Davidson. Getting a tank or tail bag strapped to the passenger seat’s backrest should do the trick. Not only will your dog have the time of his or her life with their favorite human, but will be safe and secure without moving all over the place. We suggest keeping the cover open so your dog can feel the wind in its face and take in all the sights. Some tail bags come with added creature comforts like windows, extra soft padding, and ventilation panes.
If you want your pup as close as possible, you can also get a backpack that is specially made for dogs. These dog-specific backpacks typically come with a fitted harness to keep your pup safe and secure. Your dog can sit right in front of your or just over your back. If your dog is the nervous or anxious kind, a backpack should make them feel safer by being closer to you.
For dogs that are packing on the pounds and are much larger, you’ll likely need to invest in an extra seat or even a side car for your Harley-Davidson. Larger dog breeds like Dobermans or German Shepherds will need a seat of their own. Extra seats can easily be installed by our Harley-Davidson service department. We would also highly recommend a harness for added security and safety.
Finally, for dogs such as Saint Bernards or even Great Danes, a side car will be the only option if man’s best friend needs to accompany you on your motorcycle rides. Side cars can be quite the investment, but it’s the safest way to have a friend (two or four legged) accompany you on your Harley-Davidson.
